On a mission to use data for good…
My Story
I’ve been fascinated by statistics since I was a teenager. Moving from Ghana to the U.S. at the age of 10, my math teachers and classes were always challenging and fun, allowing me to move beyond cultural and accent barriers to work with and form relationships with the other kids in my school.
While life has taken me down many roads since those early days of classroom math competitions, I’ve had the opportunity to return many times to the field of math/statistics: first, as a high school math teacher during the start of my career. Then, as a data science student during an early career pivot from business development into AI.
I currently work as a Policy Lead in the Internet Policy Unit for a UK-based non-profit where I lead our AI workstream, thinking through promoting AI ecosystems around the world and especially in Africa and distilling research on AI regulation, governance, and ethics.
Simultaneously, I’m pursuing opportunities to strengthen my data science skills and give back to the world by AI for good.
I am currently volunteering on a machine learning project to improve the sorting and segregation of waste with the Omdena France chapter and eagerly anticipating more opportunities to use data for good.
